Franz End A Nepotistic Residency In Style

added 23 February 2009 at 11.17

Bob Hardy and Alex Kapranos end their stint as Xfm DJs with a typically nepotistic playlist. Black Sabbath’s heaviness also gets pondered.

We were all thinking it, but Alex and Bob finally admitted to leaning a little heavily on their own back catalogue while helming The Residency throughout February. Introducing the band’s cover of Fire Engines’ ‘Get Up And Use Me’, the pair said:

“As is now the tradition, we are going to indulge ourselves and play one of our tunes… let’s play another tune that would never get played unless we played it ourselves”, said Hardy.

“I love the idea of taking over a radio station”, added Alex. “It’s sheer nepotism isn’t it? Shall we play some Box Codax [guitarist Nick McCarthy’s former band]?”.

On sparkling form throughout, Alex and Bob also took time to philosophically ponder the weight of metal legends, Black Sabbath.

“Are Black Sabbath the heaviest band ever to come out of the Midlands?”, asked Alex wistfully.

We wonder. And so could you, while listening to Franz’s latest, last, and possibly best, instalment of their Residency.
