Florence And The Machine Already Thinking About Next Album

...Despite just getting a nod for 'Lungs' in the Barclaycard Mercury Prize...

It's merely a matter of days since Florence And The Machine's debut album 'Lungs' came out, but already young Ms Welch is thinking about new songs. Speaking at the shortlist party for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize today (July 21), Florence told Xfm that she was already toying with fresh material.

"Whenever we're soundchecking, I shout 'This new one!'" she laughs. "Sounds are going round and round in my head, but I don't have time. They'll have to keep ticking away in there. Maybe mine will be the most difficult second album of all time... just white noise!"

With the critical and commercial acclaim given to 'Lungs', it's been incredible to see The Machine nestling safely in the charts next to the likes of Kasabian and Michael Jackson over the last couple of weeks - and Florence is pleased. "I never really thought of myself as an artist who would be commercially successful, so it's amazing," she admits. "It's bizarre. If you'd told me a year ago I'd be in the same chart as Michael Jackson... it's unbelievable."
