Elbow Enjoy Double Win At The Ivor Novello Awards

Another award ceremony, another brace of awards for Guy Garvey and co. Coldplay, The Ting Tings and Jonny Greenwood also nick a gong.
Yesterday’s Ivor Novello Awards, an award ceremony dedicated to songwriters and songwriting achievement, saw Elbow walk away with two of its prestigious gongs. ‘One Day Like This’ scooped the award for Best Song Musically And Lyrically, while ‘Grounds For Divorce’ won Best Contemporary Song.
The two awards marked a departure of sorts for the Bury band. The ‘Best Album’ category that they’ve been used to collecting over the past twelve months actually went to fellow-Mancs The Ting Tings and their debut ‘We Started Nothing’.
Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ was recognised as the ‘Best Selling British Song’, while Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood won the Best Original Film Score with his work on ‘There Will Be Blood’. Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja (3D) and Grant Marshall (Daddy G) won the PRS For Music Outstanding Contribution To British Music.
