Brits 2009 Nominations Announced

Coldplay, Elbow and Kings Of Leon are all up for gongs next month... Get the full list of nominees and see what Scouting For Girls and Florence And The Machine had to say about the whole thing...

Coldplay, Elbow, Kings Of Leon, The Killers and MGMT have all been nominated in the Brit Awards 2009, which were launched tonight (January 20) at London's Roundhouse.

Coldplay and Elbow are to go head-to-head on the big award of the evening, the MasterCard Best British Album - will Guy Garvey and chums follow up their Mercury Music Prize success? The two bands are also both up for Best British Group prize.

Scouting For Girls will be battling it out for Best British Live Act with Elbow, Coldplay, The Verve and, er, Iron Maiden, while they're also in with a shot at British Breakthrough Act. SFG also get a nod for Best British Breakthrough Act, with 'Heartbeat' in with a chance of Best British Single.

The Best International Artist and Best International Album nominations are, interestingly, identical - Kings Of Leon, The Killers, AC/DC, MGMT and Fleet Foxes have all been nominated.

And, as previously reported, Florence And The Machine will receive a Critics' Choice Award at the ceremony at Earls Court on February 18. Comperes on the night will be Kylie Minogue, James Corden and Club Xfm DJ Matthew Horne, with live performances from Coldplay, U2, Pet Shop Boys, Kings Of Leon, Duffy and Girls Aloud. Should be a big night.

  1. Radiohead should be in best live act! I am throughly disipointed to see that they are not!
