X-clusive: Hot Chip Hip Hop Hopes And Snoop Dogg Cover
Hot Chip spoke exclusively to Xfm about their new collaborations, with both hip hop and Scritti Politti projects on the go. Plus, their Snoop Dogg cover which you can exclusively listen to right here, right now.
Having performed a fantastic cover of Snoop Dogg's new single 'Sensual Seduction' [listen to Hot Chip's cover - it's ace!] for Xfm's Live From Leicester Square last Friday (January 18), founder member Joe Goddard revealed it could be a future record.
"I reckon we would release our Snoop Dogg cover. It was the first time we've ever even tried it but it's a wicked tune and I enjoyed singing it soI reckon it will be a b-side in the future."
But aside from Hot Chip's own material - with third album 'Made In The Dark' released on Feburary 4 - Goddard revealed:
"I'm making a hip hop record with a young rapper called Dells who's really talented and we're putting an album together which is sounding really great."
He and Dells are set to release a single 'Lazy' on Moshi Moshi Records in March. The choice to embark on an outside project was something Goddard had always wanted to do: "I've always wanted to work with a rapper. Hip hop's a big thing for me so that'll be great."
With regards to other Hot Chip side plates, Alexis Taylor is working with Green Gartside from Scritti Politti - the 1980s band most famed for hit single 'The Wood Beez' and comeback album 'White Bread Black Bear' - on some new material about which Goddard added:
"I dont know what the plans are to release that but something will be released this year."
He also clarified why Hot Chip's planned Leicester gig - scheduled for Valentine's Day and the first date of their UK tour - was cancelled:
"Our missuses did have something to do with that but we had to finish a recording on that day and we're not gonna have time to get to Leicester in the evening to play the show.
"But I'll be honest, it's gonna be nice to be in London with our loved ones to spend Valentines together."
But he did promise that Hot Chip - whose Xfm-adored single 'Ready For the Floor' is out now - will play Leicester at some point later in the year.
