X-clusive: Bat For Lashes On Double Brits Honour

added 15 January 2008 at 10.40

Just moments after it was revealed Bat For Lashes had been nominated in two prestigious Brit Award categories, Natasha Khan spoke exclusively to Xfm about the exciting news.

Dressed in a typically flamboyant outfit, Bat For Lashes' Natasha Khan spoke at the Brits Awards 2008 Launch in Camden about her nominations for both Best British Female Artist and Best British Breakthrough Act.

"It's all very surreal as always", she began, still flushed from her magical performance of 'What's A Girl To Do' on the Roundhouse's stage just moments before.

"And I'm particularly chuffed with the Best British Female Solo nomination as PJ Harvey is in there too. I was obsessed with her for years and think she's amazing so it's very very flattering. [Listen]

"But Breakthrough Act is fantastic too", she continued. "Especially as it's the Brits and I'm in there with all these weird mainstream acts that I know nothing about so it's strange to be included in there."

It's the second time this year that Khan has been recognised in a major awards' roll call for her debut album, 'Fur And Gold', the first being her Mercury Award nomination earlier this year.

But, as she assured Xfm, awards aren't something that she aspires to achieve. " I wrote this record in my bedroom when I was a nursery teacher. It is all still very new for me, but these awards are really just  a by-product of the original intention which was actually very pure." [Listen]

The Brit Awards 2008 Launch Party took place at Camden's Roundhouse on January 14 2008. For the full list of nominations click here.

The Brit Awards take place on February 20 at Earl's Court Arena with Xfm bringing you all the updates and winner exclusives on the night.
