The Zutons Slam US Producers

Having worked with George Drakoulias in LA, heroically ‘fro’d bass player Russell Pritchard decides American producers are too ‘up themselves’
There’s no pleasing some people, is there? The Zutons recorded their third album, ‘You Can Do Anything’, in the sunny climes of L.A. with George Drakoulias, knob twiddler to The Black Crowes, Primal Scream and… erm.... Maria Mckee. It wasn’t enough for some members of the band though. Oh no.
In an interview with 6 Music, shortly after their performance at the iTunes Festival, bass player Russell Pritchard spoke out against the supposed dominance of U.S. producers.
“I think that they are good over there, but there is a certain element of being up themselves a little bit which can get in the way of themselves… They sort of know they are the best and that gets in the way - it's a bit of a barrier."
Saucer of milk for the Scouser? Maybe, but the four-stringer also went on to describe new album as their best yet, and the big difference between it and its predecessors was…
"The quality. It flows better than the other albums. The second album was a bit bitty, the first album has lots of different influences all over it, whereas this one is a bit more consistent throughout”
Don’t forget to catch The Zutons, Live From Leicester Square this Friday at 5pm on 104.9 Xfm
You can also see the video we made for ‘Always Right Behind You’
Or have a look at the pictures we took of them at the iTunes Festival. There’s even one of Russell burning an American flag… Or did we leave that one out? Hmmm….
