The Rev: "Mongrel Is The Sound Of Great Britain"

Reverend Jon McClure lets it all out to Xfm, dishing the latest on all things Mongrel, the next 'Makers record, and his plans to lay down some tunes with Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela...
Speaking at Friday's (November 14) Mencap Little Noise Sessions in London's Union Chapel, Reverend And The Makers leader McClure declared the forthcoming album from supergroup Mongrel (of which he, former Arctic Monkey Andy Nicholson, current Arctic Monkeys' drummer Matt Helders, Babyshambles' Drew McConnell and rapper Lowkey make up) defines the state of the nation today.
The Rev vented: "Mongrel is the sound of Great Britian, right now. Despite the fact you'd think that we all ever listen to were white kids with guitars that sound like The Libertines, in actual fact there's an unbelievably fertile open mic and MC scene. The melting of Asian and West Indian culture with British culture is a brilliant thing. All them ingredients are on the Mongrel album. It's bad ass!"
McClure also dished out the latest on the all-important second 'Makers album.
"The second Reverend And The Makers album is almost finished, and sounds unbelievable. It's completely different from the first and the Mongrel album and the Mongrel dub album."
And never one to put his feet up, the Rev unveiled his plans to work with Hugo Chavez, following an "infinity" he recently felt with the Venezuelan president.
"I'm gonna go to Venezuela to make some music with Hugo Chavez and explore the Venezuelan culture which is exploding the same way the Jamaican culture did in the 60s and 70s. Venezuela is the place. I feel an infinity with him. Both me, being some C-list musician from Britain, him, being president of a country, have been constantly demonised by the press when we're trying to do good things."
