The Cribs Collaborating with Smiths Legend

added 25 January 2008 at 10.49

Yorkshire brothers The Cribs have been developing collaborative material with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and are set to record demos today (January 25) in Stockport.

The Cribs - who're currently headlining a full UK tour - hope to release the tracks as an EP or use them for a full album collaboration with Marr.

Gary Jarman (Cribs' bassist) met Johnny Marr - who joined Modest Mouse to work on their latest album 'We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank' - at a barbeque when they were both residing in Portland USA.  He told NME:

“I was a bit defensive at first – I was like, ‘Who’s this other English guy at the barbecue?’" Jarman added; “He came up and started talking to me and then the penny dropped about who he actually was."

The blossoming Jarman - Marr friendship and decision to work together then came to fruition over a somewhat British ritual:

“We became mates, then one day we went out for afternoon tea. We drank a few pots of this white tea he’s really into, and decided to work together.”

Watch this space until further details come from The Cribs/Marr camp.
