Strokes, Santogold And N.E.R.D. Team Up For Converse Single

As a marketing man's wet dream comes to pass, three of the hottest acts in the world today have teamed up to promote Converse trainers. This is one those ideas that could be really good or supremely awful...
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Converse shoes, the brand has somehow (kerr-ching) managed to pursuade Strokes man Julian Casablancas, Santogold and N.E.R.D to collaborate on an original full length track.
The song will be a free online download (release details coming soon) and came about during a meeting between N.E.R.D.'s Pharrell and Julian in New York City. After Julian was on board, Pharrell caught one of Santogold's many SXSW shows and brought her in on the project.
Talking to Gigwise, Santi White explained that working with big brands isn't the sell-out story it seems: "It's like one of the main ways to get our music heard now and so it's stupid for artists to shy away from that," commenting the tune is, "such a Pharrell track".
"Everybody on it does their own separate thing and we didn't do it together so it ends up being just this weird long song with sort of everybody with lots of their own personalities separate."
Stay tuned for details of the free download
