Stereophonics Played One-Off Show With Former Drummer

Kelly Jones exclusively reveals how the band got back together with former drummer Stuart Cable for one night only, as well as why the forthcoming greatest hits is coming out now...

Xfm spoke exclusively to Phonics' singer Kelly Jones and bass player Richard Jones before their set for Mencap's Little Noise Sessions at London's Union Chapel, where they let slip about a surprise recent gig with former drummer Stuart Cable.

Jones said: "Parting ways with Stuart was a really horrible time for everybody involved. Thankfully all that water's under the bridge now, we speak to each other again. We even played at a wedding again the other day pissed up together on stage.

"He knew the songs better than us! We were brought up in the same street just seven doors apart, so we always said it was just a band. We were friends a lot longer than we were ever in a band together."

Stereophonics release their greatest hits, 'Decade In The Sun', on November 17, admitting that after years of label pressure, they finally feel the time is right.

"A lot of bands have done them after two records and just stuck them out for Christmas. For us there's a lot of songs. We've been asked to do it for about five, six years and didn't feel it was the right time. Ten years feels like a good round number to do it, and for us it's a celebration. It's not a stopping mark for us, there's two new songs on there.

"We're gonna go back in the studio in March to do a new album for next year. We didn't want to leave it up to some guy in a record company we've never met before in five years time, with it ending up in some bargain bin in Woolworths."
