Brooklyn-based Boss worshippers get the nod from their hero to contribute ‘Atlantic City’ to a new War Child album.

The Hold Steady have spoken about their contribution to the new War Child album, ‘Heroes’. The record, which sees legends of music picking new bands to cover their songs, has a version of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Atlantic City’ by the Brooklyn-based five piece.

Committed fans of The Boss, The Hold Steady were flattered to be asked to cover a song by their hero.

“We’ve been compared to Bruce Springsteen a lot and he is a hero to all of us”, singer Craig Finn told Xfm. “It’s flattering that he’d think of us given the choice. We hope our version of the song conveys the respect we have for him as an artist”.

The song was chosen by the band having already featured in some of their live sets.

“We’d already done 'Atlantic City' at a charity benefit so we kind of had an arrangement worked up so we decided to record that. It’s a pretty fun song and I’m pretty happy with our version of it”.

The album, which features support and contributions from U2, The Clash, Elbow and Beck, will hit the shops on February 16, 2009.
