Reverend: I'm Quitting Music

added 20 August 2008 at 09.39

The Makers' frontman claims he's "disgusted" by the music industry and is off to greener pastures after the next album.

Jon McClure has claimed that he will quit the music business after Reverend And The Makers' second album, claiming that he's "disgusted" by the industry. Speaking to the BBC, McClure explained that he was tired of being criticised in the music press. "I played a festival recently," he said. "I put up a peace sign and got the crowd to put up a peace sign. It was written in the music press that my asking people to put up a peace sign was a crassism. Now, if it's a crassism to ask people to put up a peace sign at a time when we're at war in two countries, we're shafted.

"Therefore, I'm going to retire from the music industry in January because I'm disgusted by it. I don't want nothing to do with it no more. It's run by rich white men who are very conservative and have been around too long. They don't wanna hear anybody with anything truly rebellious to say and that's why British indie music has stalled for the last ten years."

Reverend And The Makers' second - and presumably final - album, 'A French Kiss In The Chaos' is due early next year.

What do you think? Should the Reverend quit, or is he being too sensitive? And is "crassism" a real word anyway? Leave us a comment here.

  1. Reverend and the makers refreshing style WILL be missed. Never have they forced a view on anyone, merely opened peoples eyes. Unfortunately i'm not sure him quitting will influence anything - he would have more of a say whilst in the industry.
    Please don't go!

  2. Perhaps the so called "Reverend" has decided to retire from the music industry because he's finally realised how derivative and boring his music is?

    He will not be missed.

  3. Sadly I agree - with the "Industry" it's never about the music, always the money (and the cocaine, prostitutess and award ceremony lifestyle) - yeuch!
