REM: ‘It’ll Be An Obama Landslide’

Mike Mills and Michael Stipe put their full weight behind Barack Obama in the first part of Xfm’s World Exclusive R.E.M. documentary.

Mike Mills and Michael Stipe have hit out at John McCain and George W. Bush in the first part of Xfm’s R.E.M. documentary. The famously politicised band leave no one in any doubt who they’ll be supporting in the forthcoming US presidential race.

“I think Barack Obama would be a wonderful president although he's going to inherit some incredibly tough times”, said bass player Mike Mills. “The mess left to him by George W Bush… I don't think any human being could fix those things in four or eight years”.

Michael Stipe was just as enthusiastic about an Obama presidency. The R.E.M. singer predicts a sweeping victory for the U.S. Senator for Illinois.

"I was talking to a friend of mine who's very politically aware and he thinks that it's going to be a 45 state landslide and I have to say I really agree”, said Stipe. “I think my country has realised what the Bush administration has done to us [and] the degree to which it's eroded very basic values and very essential parts of what it is to be American”.
