MC5 And Primal Scream Added To Meltdown

The surviving members of veteran agit-rockers The MC5 (shouldn't that be The MC3?) and their spiritual grandchildren Primal Scream have been added to this year's Massive Attack-curated Meltdown bill.

The appearance of Primal Scream and The MC5 - both bands are steeped in a tradition of political protest - fits in with the Meltdown ethos as set out by Massive Attack.

In an earlier statement, the curators said: "We want this year's festival to have a strong political and visual element to it to reflect our influences and obsessions. Our aim is to mix it up a bit by instigating collaborations that make sense and probably some that don't."

Also confirmed to perform at the nine-day festival are Elbow, Gang Of Four, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Stiff Little Fingers, Grace Jones, Tom Tom Club, Tery Callier, George Clinton and Mark Stewart & The Maffia.

The Massive Attack Meltdown Festival takes place at London's South Bank from June 14 - 22.

Primal Scream's ninth album is called 'Beautiful Future' and is set for release on July 21.
