Martina Topley-Bird For New Club Night

Former Tricky chanteuse Martina Topley-Bird has been confirmed as the opening act for London's latest club night, Club Scruffy. Also set to appear over the coming months are the best in up'n'coming bands.
Club Scruffy, hosted by independent music company Scruffy Bird, is a brand new live band club night at the newly refurbished Star Of Bethnal Green (formerly The Pleasure Unit).
The night, which will happen every Wednesday from April 2 onwards, is aimed at showcasing the best new bands around.
The launch night on April 2 promises to be extra special with Martina Topley-Bird making her first live performance in over four years.
Martina - whose vocals graced Tricky's groundbreaking trip-hop classic, 'Maxinquaye' - is currently getting ready to release her new album, the Danger Mouse-produced 'The Blue God' on May 12.
Other acts confirmed for April include Xposure favourites Cage The Elephant, Bombay Bicycle Club, Micachu & The Shapes, The Laurel Collective, The Invisible, White Denim, Friskaviljor and Dead Pixels.
Doors open at 8pm, live bands will perform at 9pm and 10pm, and Scruffy DJs afterwards playing the best in indie, rock'n'roll, electro, pop, yacht rock and essentially anything good.
More details can be found at Club Scruffy's site.

What a con! Entry was restricted to well after half 8 to prevent anyone getting the cheaper door price advertised. A queue built up outside, understandably, but instead of sorting it out, the management went up to the roof and started taking photos - what do you expect if a PR runs a night?
Don't believe the hype - there were plenty of pissed off punters left stranded outside, despite the promise of tickets from the team in charge.
