Led Zeppelin To Tour… But Not As Led Zeppelin

Jimmy Page’s management deny ‘Led Zeppelin’ tour as John Paul Jones says they’re about to hit the road.
“Whatever this is, it is not Led Zeppelin. Not without the involvement of Robert Plant.”
John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Jason Bonham look certain to tour, however. As we’ve previously mentioned, Altar Bridge singer Myles Kennedy has been in the frame to replace Plant, as has Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell. It’s now also reported that Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler may fill the Zep frontman’s shoes.
In whichever form the band will take, bassist John Paul Jones certainly thinks they’ll be taking to the road sometime soon. eGigs.co.uk are reporting that Jones, while taking part in a guitar show in Exeter, said:
"I'm afraid there's no final answer yet. Jimmy, Jason and I are actually rehearsing and we've had the odd singer come in and have a bash. But we really hope that something is going to happen soon because we really want to do it and we're having a lot of fun just rehearsing.
"We really want to do something and Robert doesn't want to do this for the moment. I don't really know what his plans are. He really doesn't want to make loud music anymore. But what we've done so far sounds absolutely fantastic”.
So what do you think? Have they just ditched the weakest link or is Zep not Zep without Percy Plant?

What's Coverdale doing these days? ;-)

Plant can't sing anymore - hopeless, plus his prima donna attitude stinks....bring on the guy from Soundgarden....go go go Jonesey and Page....

Chris Cornell would be a fine replacement in my opinion. He can certainly sing, AND write and he has a large following of his own. Myles Kennedy can sing but he seems to be just a bit too much of Myles Kennedy fan for my taste. Bottom line, I got NO problem with going out without Plant and his tore up, smoked out vocal chords and lousy attitude. Why not give Chrissy Hynde a call? Look, it was controversial when Page decided to create the 'New Yardbirds' with a then unknown Robert Plant on vocals and THAT became Led Zep. These guys should make a choice that makes sense musically, and forget the sentemental hooey over the Led Zeppelin name, or their original singer, great as he was.

I think the best replacemnt for plant is Randy Jackson of Zebra he sounds awsome
-
They just have to do all the tunes without vocals or harmonica.

I'm torn between trying to buy tix or just bailing.
ZEPPELIN ISN'T ZEPPELIN WITOUT ROBERT Plant.
Steven Tyler Singing Stairway???
I Think i May Try To Go But It Just Won't Be The Same. -
A tour would be intresting but it is not zeppelin without plant

It's not the same without the same vocalist. Look at the joke that "Queen" have become.
Page and Plant didn't tour under the name "Led Zeppelin" for obvious reasons. Led Zeppelin were a complete unit. Each member played a critical role in creating the band's sound. I was played Led Zeppelin when I was in my mum's womb and Led Zeppelin were my favourite band from I was a hyperactive brat rolling around on the floor after too many Panda Pops right up until the present day.
Don't get me wrong, I tried like millions of others to get tickets for the O2 show last year because you can kind of ignore the fact that Bonzo wasn't there because 3/4 of the original line up was present. But it wouldn't have been the same. That said, I wouldn't have known because I wasn't around to see the original line up and would've loved it nevertheless. Older fans would probably say that the O2 show wasn't the same as the legendary Earls Court, MSG and Knebworth shows.
Whilst The Who can still tour and rock out venues around the world without Entwhistle and Moon, it is do-able because Pete and Roger were always the "main" members. That's not to say that Zak Starkey or Steve White are better drummers than Keith Moon but The Who's sound was rock n roll - a sound that's easier to create. Led Zeppelin were a movement, an army. None of their records would have been able to have been written without each member's input.
Put it another way, Audioslave were 3/4 of Rage Against The Machine and they didn't tour or release records as Rage Against The Machine. For good reason, Rage were another example of a band being a complete unit. Without Zak, it wasn't Rage Against The Machine. They did a few Rage tunes but it didn't really work. That said, the thought of Chris Cornell singing Led Zeppelin tunes would be rather spectacular.
Would I go and see Jimmy Page and JPJ? Yes. I nearly cried when they came on to play with the Foos at Wembley in June but without Plant it won't be Led Zeppelin. I can kind of respect Robert in a way because he doesn't believe in it anymore. He doesn't want to tarnish the legacy. His voice isn't what it was and it is more suited to the country ballads he's made with Alison Krauss.
It is a shame because I would love to see 3/4 of the original line up tour but it's probably for the best that it's not happening.

Zep is not Zep without Robert ! I think I would go and see this band that Jimmy , John and Jason have created but it still won't fill my dream of seeing Led Zep ! Come on Robert we need you we are crying out for you!
