Kasabian Frontman: "Glastonbury Was Rubbish"

Tom Meighan claims that this year's line-up was "crap" - but the band would be up for headlining next year...

Tom Meighan of Kasabian has slammed Glastonbury 2008 for being “rubbish” – despite most festy-goers claiming it was the best in years. Speaking to Gigwise, Meighan snorted, “To be honest with you I thought Glastonbury was rubbish this year and I'm not just saying that. I think people are lying again to cover it up like it was a success and it wasn't, it was really poor. It was really bad.

His reasons? The line-up wasn’t up to scratch. “I'm not just saying it because of Jay-Z, I just thought the whole thing was crap this year, you know what I mean? There wasn't even anything exciting really.”

The frontman went onto say that the positive reaction in the press was mainly because journalists “jobs are on the line” – “I just think everyone is trying to cover it over because it's Glastonbury, trying to make out that it was the best thing in the world but sometimes it isn't, sometimes you've got to say actually it weren't very good.”

Despite all this, Kasabian are still up for headlining Glastonbury 2009, once they've finished work on their new album. Give them a call, Mr Eavis!
