Ian Curtis' Headstone Stolen

The iconic headstone over the grave of Ian Curtis, which contains the epitaph "Love Will Tear Us Apart", was stolen from a cemetry in Macclesfield at some point last night.
The Joy Division frontman's memorial was taken sometime between Tuesday (July 2) lunchtime and Wednesday (July 3) morning.
Thousands of people visit the memorial every year to pay their respects to Curtis. It has the inscription "Ian Curtis 18.5.80" and the words "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on it.
Cheshire police say there's no CCTV in Macclesfield crematorium where it's been knicked from - but they reckon someone must have seen something..
Police and cemetry staff alike are appealing for its safe return.

This headstone has been safe for 28 years. Joydivision's millions of fans have left it alone and merely paid their respects. Strange how with the current high exposure of Joy Division and Ian Curtis it has suddenly disappeared. I'd be very surprised if this has been taken by a long standing fan.
