Hard-Fi Reveal Inspiration Behind Single

Indie giants Hard-Fi have revealed to Xfm that new single ‘I Shall Overcome’ is dedicated to front man Richard Archer’s late father.
Whilst hanging out on the red carpet at last night’s (February 28) NME Awards, Archer admitted it was his father’s inspiration that helped him fight all the band’s critics, telling Xfm:
“When you’re from a town like ours and you wanna be in a band, everyone thinks you’re just wasting time. There’s always people out there who’ll tell you ‘Give it up, you’re not good enough’."
Despite having made it Archer added:
"There’s always haters that wanna criticise you and put you down just because you’re there and they’re not. It’s about having someone standing there and saying ‘I believe in you’, and I was lucky enough to have that person. They’re not around anymore, but this song’s for them.
"It's my old man", Archer continued, "I was lucky enough to have someone like him and he deserves these props."
Archer also revealed he felt Manic Street Preachers deserved their ‘Godlike Genius Award’:
“They’ve written some great songs. I think those ‘Godlike Geniuses’ are always hard because it’s like ‘Who do we get this year?’. But ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’ is a brilliant track.”
The band wouldn't let slip which festivals they've got lined up this summer, but keep your eyes peeled for a great big Hard-Fi boat party.
“We’re gonna get a big battleship and go around all the major ports in the world and we’re gonna play on it like Cher. Or Dolly Parton.”
Hard-Fi release their new single ‘I Shall Overcome’ on March 10.
