Exclusive: The Wombats On New Material

added 10 June 2008 at 16.39

The Wombats took some time out from celebrating the irony of dance to post-punk bands and any number of festival shenanigans at the Beach Break Student Festival to tell Xfm about the new songs they're working on.

Matthew Murphy, the band's singer-guitarist, revealed: "We've written about four new songs but we really haven't had the time as a band to go over them yet but we've freed up some time to do that and hopefully you'll hear some new stuff from us very soon. One of the tracks is called 'How To Pack Your Bags And Leave'.

He added: "But there's no rush for the next album because we're not going to put out something that we think is shit."

More recently, The Wombats have found themselves performing to American audiences:

"We're just trying to do some work for when our album comes out there in June; we're trying to give it that extra push. We played shows in New York and San Francisco where there was actually a stage invasion on the last song!"

However, despite the pressures that touring the U.S. offers, The Wombats remain philosophical about what their Stateside future might bring: "We've never had a game plan and we're not intent on making our millions there."
