Exclusive: Primal Scream Documentary Part 2

In a world-exclusive video documentary with Mani and Bobby Gillespie, the pair talk about the creative process behind the Scream's ninth studio album, 'Beautiful Future'.
Few artists have resolutely ploughed their own furrow as Primal Scream. They've never stood still or stagnated and have called in many musical ports on their staggering journey. They've been psychedelic baggy groovers, indie/dance fusers, electro rock commandos and country'n'western fetishists. In an age where a winning formula has sounded the death knell to an artist's creativity, Primal Scream have consistently tore-up, and then re-written their own rule book.
In the second part of our five part documentary, Bobby hits back at the claims ninth album ‘Beautiful Future’ is a pop album.
“It’s not hippy record. It’s quite the f**king opposite”, says Bobby
“It’s the typical Primal Scream Trojan Horse if you ask me”, adds Mani. “You come out with a nice beautiful melody and come out with a sick undercurrent with the vocals”
And the inspiration for the bleak lyrics? Watch out celebrity mags, Bobby’s coming for you…
“In the last five or six years there’s been an acceleration of celebrity magazines. There’s also no real news on TV any more. If Lilly Allen - nothing against Lilly Allen - but if she’s wearing a pink dress and pink hair it’s on the f**king news. Meanwhile Britain’s involved in two of the longest wars it’s been involved in over the last 100 years in the form of Iraq and Afghanistan so there’s a lot of fucked up, sick shit happening".
