Exclusive: New Spiritualized Single Was Nearly Dropped

added 20 May 2008 at 15.25

In an exclusive interview with Xfm, Spiritualized's Jason Pierce has revealed how the band's new single, 'Soul On Fire', very nearly didn't make the final cut. Oh, and there are details of a new autumn tour as well.

Speaking to Xfm, Pierce claimed that while piecing together his new album, 'Songs In A&E', current single, 'Soul On Fire', was very nearly left on the cutting room floor after the singer-guitarist considered the track to to be too "pop".

Explained Pierce: "I had a problem with something like 'Soul On Fire' - I had a thing that it's a pop song. I feel that sometimes I shouldn't be writing songs like that, that I should be pushing the boundaries into this improvised world.

"So for a long time I resisted and to be honest I couldn't find a single person that would back me when I said I wanted to take it off the album [but]...it became what it is and it now makes sense within ['Songs In A&E']"

Listen to the rest of the interview here where Jason discusses near death experiences and why fire is such a recurring theme in his work.
