Editors: "We're Sticking To The Hits!"

added 27 August 2008 at 09.39

Chris and Ed told Xfm that they won't be playing any new material during their support slots with R.E.M. this weekend - but that playing with the legendary Athens band is a dream come true.

Editors are playing some of the biggest gigs of their careers this week - supporting R.E.M. on their short UK tour... which comes to twickenham on Saturday. Xfm caught up with Chris Urbanowicz and Ed Lay from the band at the Leeds festival to find out what it's like touring with the legendary band.

"It's quite flattering," says Chris. "I think of all the bands at that level they're the only one that we'd really think about supporting," "The only thing that's daunting is meeting them. I was listening to them when I was eight years old. When you're a bit drunk and saying things that you really shouldi't do..." "It's quite embarrassing," adds Ed. "But they're lovely guys, we've hung out with them on various occasions."

However, fans expecting a rack of new songs at this weekend's shows are going to be  disappointed. "I'm not sure if the new songs are really ready to go yet - we were playing one song a few weeks ago and have just decided to rework it. So we're going to stick to the hits now. We've got a month in the studio in October booked, so we should hopefully get a bit of the album done. It's been a laugh, we've kind of proved that we can still achieve something, creatively."
