Coldplay Hit Back At Plagiarism Claims

Chris Martin and co. aren’t too happy with Joe Satriani’s claims that they’ve ripped him off. They issue a retaliating statement.

Coldplay have finally gone public on the furore surrounding ‘Viva La Vida’ and guitar hero Joe Satriani’s claims that it rips off his own composition, ‘If I Could Fly’.  The statement reads:

"With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write the song 'Viva La Vida'. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavours."

The six-stringer isn’t taking it lying down, however. His lawyer, Howard E. King, has told the Associated Press that they’re unhappy with Coldplay’s reaction to Satriani’s claims and that they’ll now be settling the issue in court.

"We attempted to have a dialogue on this before we went public," King said. "We felt almost forced to file suit… As far as the 'coincidence,' ultimately that's for a jury to decide," he added.

What do you think? Here's some wag's mash-up of the two...
