Coldplay Achieve 2 Million Downloads

added 07 May 2008 at 10.56

Coldplay's new single, 'Violet Hill', has been downloaded by 2 million people since its release last week. The track was made available as free download from the band's website for seven days only.

'Violet Hill' is the first taster of the band's new album, 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', which is scheduled for release on June 12.

A spokeperson for the group described the volume of downloads as "staggering" while pointing out that 'Violet Hill' would have outsold the whole of the Top 40 singles four times over.

Coldplay are set to play a number of free gigs to coincide with the release of the album including a performance at London's Brixton Academy on June 16. Details of the gig are available from Coldplay's website.
