Bloc Party: "If Radiohead Can Do It Why Can't We?"

added 05 September 2008 at 11.14

Bloc Party's third album 'Intimacy' has already been released in MP3 format so Xfm spoke to the band to find out why they decided to do a 'Radiohead'...

Xfm spoke to Matt Tong and Kele Okereke ahead of their Xfm Residency to discuss their new album 'Intimacy' which was released digitally on 21st August.

"We're having to adjust with the times...it was a little bit strange at first because we were one of the last few bands to get our foot in the music industry door before there was this whole change in the way things occur...but if Radiohead can do it why cant we?" explains Matt.

Lead singer Kele wanted to make sure the process was fresh for the audience as well as the band:

"We just wanted to get some spontaneity into the whole process. With 'A Weekend In The City', we finished it at the end of the summer and I was doing interviews from then til the end of the year and we had to talk about a record no one had heard. By the time it came out I was bored of it...Me personally and the band, the people that had created the music, it was already boring to us so I think we just wanted to retain some excitement and spontaneity this time.

For those not so internet savvy- the album will be released physically on October 27. As Kele explains:

"Mums like Bloc Party so you have to make sure it's whacked in Tesco's and stuff."
