Barat Slams Coldplay Giveaway

Dirty Pretty Things

Carl Barat has slammed Coldplay for "jumping on the bandwagon" by offering their new single 'Violet Hill' as a free download earlier this week.

The Dirty Pretty Things frontman claims that major acts are ruining the music industry for lesser-known groups by offering such freebies.

"You can't escape the fact that big name, big money bands who release their stuff for free are harming the scene," Barat told YahooMusic. "The industry is struggling financially and this is like missile after missile. How do new bands compete?"

The The Coldplay single 'Violet Hill' was released as a free track on Tuesday (April 29) and notched up over 600,000 downloads in the first 24 hours alone. The second Dirty Pretty Things album, 'This Is Where The Truth Begins', meanwhile is due next month.

What do you think? Do you think Coldplay are just being generous, or are they spoiling it for everyone else? Speak your brains here by leaving a comment.
