Babyshambles Banned From Playing At Festival
Pete Doherty aren't headlining the Moonfest this weekend... because they'll cause a riot, say police.
Babyshambles have been prevented from playing a festival in Wiltshire this weekend after police feared they would cause a riot. Pete Doherty's crew were due to headline the Moonfest in Westbury, but following a court order, the band will not now perform. Local police claimed that they would not be able to contain the potential "disorder" during the group's performance.
The Telegraph reports that Superintendent Paul Williams of Wiltshire Police explained that the court order was brought following Doherty's performance at the Royal Albert Hall in April, which ended in crowd problems. "It is very unusual for the Royal Albert Hall to have to request police assistance, which on that occasion they did. He just whipped up the crowd and there was disorder.
"We carried out an analysis of what Pete Doherty and his band does. What he does as part of his routine is to gee up the crowd. They speed up and then slow down the music and create a whirlpool effect in the crowd. They all get geed up and then they start fighting."
Moonfest organiser John Green was "livid" at the decision, while Doherty's manager Andy Boyd says that a free show is being lined up as compensation.

Actaully no, Jimmy. I loathe Oasis and The Sun in equal measure. Doherty was involved in one fairly good album - the Libs debut - and its been the kind of navel gazing that's the calling card of any junkie.
Sadly, Babyshambles sound like a bunch of 14 year olds at their first ever rehearsal.
