Another Free Album From Nine Inch Nails

added 06 May 2008 at 11.51

Trent Reznor's industrial overloards Nine Inch Nails have made yet another album of new material available for download. This time, though, it's entirely free of charge with a whole range of DRM-free options.

'The Slip' is now available for download from Nine Inch Nail's official website. Unlike the band's recent instrumental 'Ghosts I-IV' album which was released in a combination of free and paid downloads, CDs and other formats, 'The Slip' is a straightforward download available in MP3 or 24-bit, 96 Kbps WAV files.

A message from frontman Trent Reznor on the band's website reads: "Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's of me."

'The Slip' will receive a physical release in July when it appears on vinyl and CD.

The album has been released under a Creative Commons license which means that fans can also download free multi-track copies and make their own remixes.

  1. Ah awesome. Have loved their music over the years and can't wait to get to grips with this latest offering.

On the site they are actively trying to get people to mix it themselves. Should be good to hear some of the results.

  2. Interesting idea but to be put in prospective. A Band like NIN make millions a year with live, mechanicals, catalogue.
Now, CD sales and digital download, for a band like this is no more than 10% of their income. With such a media idea, instead of having their whole business down they are on the way up, sanctified as the band against the bad record industry. Their show will keep seeling loads of expensive tickets and their business will grow. On top of that, hardcore fans or people who just missed it will even buy the CD.
Probably NIN are sincere in doing this, but it's just a career move to be free considering their business will be stronger and bigger thanks to this.
Now, let's see if they are back to the quality of the early stuff...
    Cheers
