Xfm Meets The Maccabees

added 23 November 2007 at 17.42

Brothers Felix and Hugo White of The Maccabees came into Xfm to talk exclusively about being up for the Xfm New Music Award for their début album 'Colour It In'.

Having just completed a full UK tour finishing up with a sold out date at London's RoundhouseThe Maccabees - who are currently having a well-deserved rest from touring - are writing a follow up album.

The lads - who recently toured the USA with the fabulous Bloc Party - discuss what their debut 'Colour It In' means to them, what they set out to do with the record and explain the stories behind 'Latchmere' and their latest single 'Toothpaste Kisses'

So how do you feel about being up for the Xfm New Music Award?

"It's a big one, we said about five years ago that in 2008, the Xfm top album award, we want it..." (listen to full answer)

It's the listeners voting so why do you think you are up for it?

"It's the ethic of what this band is built on, it's always been a word of mouth thing getting into The Maccabees..." (listen to full answer)

What do you think it is that's special about your debut?

"We just wrote a really honest record which probably sounds a bit naive and bashful but..." (listen to full answer)

When you were writing it did you think, "This is going to be the best debut album ever"?

"I thought it's probably not gonna be massive but to the people that really get this it's gonna be important to them..." (listen to full answer)

Will this album forever be special to you?

"Some of the songs are right from way back like 'Good Old Bill' was the first song we ever played together..." (listen to full answer)

How did the title 'Colour It In' come about?

"We always try to make people feel involved with our band and feel like they're part of it and you can make of it what you want of it..." (listen to full answer)

What's the story behind 'Latchmere'?

"It's the little things in life that are important that are probably not important to anyone else but are special to you..." (listen to full answer)

How about the latest single 'Toothpaste Kisses'?

"It's like a little waltzy song, it was made intentionally for something a bit different to book-end the record..." (listen to full answer)
