X-clusive: Snow Patrol Start New Album

Speaking to Xfm exclusively at the Isle of Wight Festival this weekend, Snow Patrol front man Gary Lightbody talked about their new album and why they're in no hurry to get it out.
The Scottish band - who headlined the first night of the Isle of Wight Festival - revealed that they have already begun working on the follow up to 2006's 'Eyes Open' and potentially could have the album ready for release within a couple of months. But after four years on the road the band are more than happy to take their time over this one.
"I've written loads", Lightbody divulged, "Nathan [Connolly]'s written quite a few songs, Paul [Wilson]'s been writing quite a bit as well, so the new album could be done when we finish this tour in September.
"But I dont think there's any point of doing it this early, "he explained, "I think people by the end of the summer will just about have had enough, and that's fair enough.
"We understand we've been at it for four years non-stop on tour as well and we need a break and maybe everyone else needs a break too. So we're gonna take a good bit of time off, make the album in our own pace and come back fresh maybe a year later."
And turning to the sound for their forthcoming material it seems the band are keen to take things back to basics, with Lightbody telling Xfm "I think we're going to make this album with a lot less instrumentation, you know strip it back down a bit."
"I think sometimes you strip quite a lot of stuff off something", he continued, "And suddenly it becomes more powerful.
"It's gonna be an excercise in restraint for us. Maybe minus the strings and minus the choirs and stuff so that would be back to the first two records."
Snow Patrol's European tour kicks off on June 21 and includes a London date at the o2 arena on June 28 as well as festival appearances at Live Earth (July 7) and V Festival (August 18).
