X-clusive: Klaxons Plan New Album

added 28 November 2007 at 12.59

Having just found out they've been shortlisted for the Xfm New Music Award, Klaxons explain why they're so excited about being nominated and reveal their plans for album number two.

Xfm caught up with Klaxons' guitarist Simon Taylor as they set off on their UK tour to find out how the meteoric band were feeling about making the final ten for Xfm's New Music Award.

"It's just absolutely an honour", he gushed, "It still puts us in a state of shock, it hit home last night that we're being nominated for stuff like the Xfm New Music Award. It's mind blowing.

"We're utterly flattered and excited about it," he continued, "We're big fans of the station, and the station has always been fans of us which is nice. Certainly John Kennedy is someone we sit up and listen to, there's something exciting about his interviews. It was one of the first interviews we ever did and it will always remain a special place for us."

But with their Mercury Prize winning debut 'Myths Of The Near Future' continuing to make waves, the band who made "new rave" a permanent fixture in the musical lexicon have already got big plans for a follow up.

"All we're talking about all day is the next record, we're absolutely ecstatic about getting to work on it and desperate to get back into the studio.

"We wanna make something that's bigger and softer and louder and lo-fi and heavier produced - just lots of contradictions. I think it's gonna be like the last record but swollen.

"There's one track we've been playing in sound check, it's this massive prog opus. We've been listening to a lot of European prog-music and dub-step and dance and folk. A huge broad variety of things really."

As for other plans for his own forthcoming nuptials to CSS' Lovefoxx, Taylor was remaining tight-lipped.

"It's true we're getting married soon but I can't say much more than that. My mum keeps reading all this stuff about it, it's completely crazy.

"Someone mocked up a picture of us with our heads on different bodies which had us in stitches. We're just waiting for someone to morph our faces to see what our kids would look like. You know, no pressure!"
