X-clusive: Klaxons On Future Plans - Newer Rave!

added 05 September 2007 at 17.25

Following the news that Klaxons had scooped this year's coveted Mercury Music Prize Xfm caught up with the band for an X-clusive interview about their "near future" plans (pun intended).

Having just picked up the Mercury Prize award (and hefty cheque) for their debut album 'Myths Of The Near Future', a clearly ecstatic (and clearly just as wasted) Klaxons took some time out to have an X-clusive chat with Xfm about what the future holds.

"I'm gonna give the award to my Mum", keyboardist and singer James Righton slurred. "She deserves it more than anyone and this is all for her because she always had faith, always knew this was gonna happen."

"We're gonna party so hard tonight," he continued, "Holding this award my whole body is shaking. It's just so hard to comprehend what's happened over the last year.

"We started out as a shambles but we knew what we wanted to make and we were so focussed on it and to now walk home with this. I can't say any more about it."

As to whether the band are worried about the resultant media attention and accompanying pressure Righton was quick to dismiss any "Mercury curse" worries.

"No it's good", he insisted, "The more pressure the better, we work well under pressure. When we've got time on our hands we don't work well, when we're given a limited amount of time we pull our fingers out and working hard."

So with all eyes swivelling sharply round to Klaxons, what next for the group who started out as a joke band?

"We’ve got about two weeks off to write and maybe demo some stuff and then we’re off around the world for three months.

"We've got a few ideas for the new record. We're gonna make a swollen pop record, something that’s swollen, more pop, more heavier, and more everything. Its not about now we’ve won this we change anything, we just keep on doing what we’re doing."
