X-clusive Interviews: Klaxons Win Mercury Prize

Following a evening dominated by talk of Amy Winehouse (will she play? Should she play? Will she be able to play) Xfm favourites Klaxons took home the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize.
After weeks where the bookies odds changed on a near daily basis (and saw Arctic Monkeys fall from being one of the favourites to having some of the lowest odds) the winner of the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize was announced last night at 10.15pm at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Xfm caught up with a quietly confident but nervous Klaxons just after they had come off stage for their performance of 'Golden Skans' prior the news that they had won had been announced. Listen to the X-clusive interview by clicking here.
And in the end – despite Bat For Lashes being the bookies favourite and a stunning acoustic performance from Amy Winehouse (which promoted an huge ovation from the crowd) - the award was presented to Klaxons for their debut ‘Myths Of The Near Future’.

Clearly overwhelmed, just a tad worse for wear (ahem) and most of all overjoyed, Klaxons made their way up to speak X-clusively to Xfm.
Listen to our X-clusive interviews with broken legged bassist Jamie Reynolds and just slightly innebriated James Righton now by clicking here (for Reynolds) and clicking here (for Righton).
Talking points of the evening included…
- Klaxons being severely smashed during their acceptance speech and the resultant press conference. Class.
- The View being severely smashed (full stop)
- Arctic Monkeys insisting in their light-hearted nomination speech that they really wanted to be there, and taking the piss out of bassist Nick O'Malley's Korn t-shirt.
- Amy Winehouse with a face like thunder when she didn’t win and storming out the venue with husband in tow.
- Seb Rochford from Basquiat Strings rocking his trademark awesome afro.
- Natasha Khan from Bat For Lashes insisting that she really, really didn’t want to win (dressed in a home-made peacock feather cape)
- Klaxons performance – their first with bassist Jamie since he busted his leg.
- Drew from Babyshambles insisting that “Pete’s in good place…. Rehab”
- The Young Knives saying "If the winners want to donate the prize money to charity, we're a good charity. We have a tax bill we need to pay."
- Klaxon Jamie being congratulated by his reported girlfriend - and member of losing band New Young Pony Club - Lou Hayter.
