X-clusive: Editors On Number One Album And New Single

With a number one album under their belts Editors told Xfm they were looking forward to the future with a new single 'An End Has A Start' due for release in September.

Speaking X-clusively to Xfm - on the eve of their gig at ICA for the iTunes Festival - Editors' bassist and drummer Russell Leetch and Ed Lay were brimming with excitement over their latest album 'An End Has A Start'.

Despite initial press criticisms, the Birmingham quartet's second album was a huge hit with fans upon its release on June 25, going on to knock White Stripes off the top spot and claim a number one in the UK album charts that week.

As to how the boys celebrated the news Leetch explained it was a relatively sober event, telling Xfm "We came back to England and all of the team got together for a meal and it was fantastic.

"It was so nice because we hardly ever all get together", he continued, "It was a great celebration for all the people who've made this work over the past four years "

Turning next to the constant comparisons between made by the press between Editors and bands such as Joy Division and Interpol, Lay protested, "Almost naively I expected all those comparisons to drop and I thought we'd be standing on our own two feet by now. But maybe there's one more album down the line until we get there.

"We've got Coldplay comparisons now instead of Joy Division so you can't win. The British press just want to put you in a bracket and knock you down, say you're cheats and copies. If they want to do that, fine. We're quite happy with what we're doing."

Finally, looking forward to the future and the release of their new single album title track 'An End Has A Start' on September 3, Lay revealed, "As the title suggests its about an end having start and life being a circle. You came in on your own and that's how you'll leave."

"I suppose it's a homage to New Order" Leetch interjeted, "It was crying out to be a complete pop song."
