X-clusive: Dizzee Rascal For Second Mercury Prize?

No one’s ever one the prestigious Mercury Prize more than once, but that could all change this year as two previous winners – Dizzee Rascal and Arctic Monkeys - are up for the award once again.
Having already scooped a Mercury gong back in 2003 for his debut ‘Boy In Da Corner’ Dizzee could be about to make music history with his newly nominated album ‘Maths And English’.
And Xfm managed to grab a word with Dizzee just after the announcement to find out what he made of the news.
“Its nice man", he explained,” I’ve got the album out ‘Maths And English’ and it’s being recognised again so it’s wicked man.
“I think this album is different to the first one”, he continued, “For me it’s more exciting because it is different. Everyone’s got their own opinions though, some people think its better, some people don’t. I personally think its better.
And if it is - as Dizzee ascertained – better than his prize winning debut than could that mean a second run for the London rapper?
“That would be amazing”, he agreed “But if not, I’ve still been nominated so it’s all good.”
But it's last year's winners - Arctic Monkeys - who Dizzee has got his money on, having guested with them on Brianstorm’s B-side ‘Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend’ as well as joining them on stage during their Glastonbury headline set.
“It’s Arctic Monkeys obviously”, he declared, “I worked with them on my album, I just like what they do. I went to Glastonbury, it was the first time I actually saw them play on stage and it was amazing, it blew me away.”
