X-clusive: Bloc Party Back In The Studio
In an X-clusive interview with Xfm Bloc Party reveal that with the band already back in the studio we should be keeping our ears and eyes peeled for new material very soon.
Speaking to Xfm ahead of their slot at the Reading Festival last weekend (August 24-26) Bloc Party's singer Kele Okereke and drummer Matt Tong revealed that the wheels are well and truly in motion for their next album.
"We go into the studio as soon as we finish Reading and Leeds to record some new material" Okereke divulged, "So there might be some new tracks sooner than everyone thinks."
"And we're gonna put out a single in between our albums for no reason other than that we can", Tong interjected.
"You start a band because you love to make music and then you realise that touring becomes all encompassing" he explained, "You're always waiting to do the next song, the next bash at recording and it's been about a year since we've been in the studio."
Turning next to what other bands have been tickling their musical bones at festivals this year it seems both new and old feature highly on their trumps list.
"I think the only two acts that have blown me away this summer were Dizzee Rascal and Bjork. Both were really incredible" Okereke enthused.
"Cyndi Lauper playing at Summersonic in Japan was a really good one as well", Tong added. "Seriously, she's still got it. She's pretty wacky and I'm not sure how lucid she is any more though - the whole show seems to be teetering on the brink of collapse but she pulled it off.
"We can but hope people just think the same about us in 20 years time."
