added 29 August 2007 at 12.45

The Young Knives are a three-piece band comprising Oliver Askew and brothers Henry Dartnell and House of Lords. The trio formed in Ashby de la Zouche, Leicestershire and are now based in Oxford. They released 'Voices of Animals and Men' on Transgressive Records in August 2006, gaining a reputation as one of the UK's most innovative and original guitar bands.

"A wonderfully idiosyncratic collection of misfit anthems. A record to lift your spirits and change your day." The Judging Panel

Current odds of winning (as reported by William Hill on August 30): 25/1

Xfm managed to catch up with The Young Knives at Reading Festival for an interview which can only be described as hi-bloody-larious. Yes they talked about their Mercury nomination, but to be honest we were more interested to find out what animals they wish their gentlemen's bits were shaped like.

Or, if you're really not interested in finding out what a 'wanger' is in the world of The Young Knives you can also check out Xfm's X-clusive interview with The Young Knives just after the nomination's announcement had been made.
