New Björk Album Announced

Following news that Björk will be playing this year’s Glastonbury, comes news that the most Icelands most famous (and it must be said, barmy) musical export has a new album on the way.
Björk’s sixth next studio album (which follows the release of ‘Medulla’ in 2004) will be entitled ‘Volta’ and it will come out on May 7 on One Little Indian Records.
Featuring ten brand new original tracks the record is entirely written and produced by Bjork, but does feature a series of collaborations.
Anthony Hegarty from Anthony And The Johnsons sings on two tracks, and hip hop production heavyweight Timbaland (Jay-Z, Missy Elliot) has working with Björk on the beats on three further songs.
Other artists that feature on ‘Volta’ include electronic pioneer Mark Bell of LFO and two drummers – Sonic Youth collaborator Chris Corsano and Brian Chippendale from Lightening Bolt.
Björk also brought in two acclaimed African artists - Toumani Diabate, the Malian kora player. and your friend and mine, Konono No1 from the experimental band from The Congo.
She has also put together her own 10 piece female brass section of Icelandic musicians who play on three further tracks. Obviously.
And if you want to see her squeaking, plonking and thumping live this summer, Björk has confirmed various European festival appearances. These are:
- Coachella, USA (April 27)
- Sasquatch Festival, USA (May 5)
- Glastonbury, UK (June 22)
- Rock Werchter, Belgium (June 28)
- Open'er, PL (July 1)
