Ill Underworld Cancel European Tour

Underworld have been forced to pull out of the entire European leg of their live tour, citing 'severe illness' as the cause.

The dance pair - reknowned for the Trainspotting hit 'Born Slippy' - had already cancelled their London date at the Roundhouse last week (October 19) after one half of the outfit Rick Smith fell ill.

The shows were intended to support Underworld's latest studio album ‘Oblivion With Bells’ which they released last week (October 16).

Now a statement has appeared on the band's official website explaining that all forthcoming European dates - which were set to take place over the next two months - were also being pulled. The posting reads,

"It is with great regret that we have had to pull-out of the European leg of the current Underworld tour due to severe illness in the band.

"More details will follow, but in the meantime, we appreciated your patience and understanding."

Karl Hyde (the other half of the duo) yesterday told the BBC that Smith was exhausted after their return to the stage explaining, "It has taken its toll on him but the Welsh are a resilient bunch and he is bouncing back now."
