Hard-Fi Kill Off The Record Sleeve
Hard-Fi have reportedly 'killed off the record sleeve' with the artwork for their forthcoming second album 'Once Upon A Time In The West'.
Speaking to The Times frontman Richard Archer said that the decision to feature simply the band's name and LP title in small letters, alongside the words 'No Cover Art' on the cover was a reaction to the digital download age.
Archer explained, "The significance of album covers is becoming little more than a centimetre square on an iPod screen. The sleeve used to add another dimension to an album, but that seems to be disappearing, which is really sad."
"We had the Sleeve of the Year in 2005 and we looked at every way of trying to top it. But perhaps the best way is to kill off the sleeve altogether."
Elsewhere, respected sleeve designer Peter Saville has described the decision as a "bold and very intelligent gesture".
'Once Upon A Time In The West' is out on September 3, with first single release 'Suburban Knights' released on August 20.
