Brian Eno To Produce New Coldplay Album

added 29 January 2007 at 11.13

In a new interview with the legendary producer, Brian Eno has revealed that he has been drafted in to work on the next Coldplay album.

In an interview with Kristy Lang on BBC Radio 4's ‘Front Row’ on Friday (January 26) Eno explained that he is set to work on the follow-up to Coldplay’s ‘X&Y’ (on which he is credited as playing synthesizers).

Eno didn't discuss the project in detail, but said of the as-yet-untitled album "I’m working with Coldplay, I’m producing their new record, which I think will be very original and very different from what they've done before."

Eno also talked about the influence of Talking Heads - with whom he’s worked in the past – and joked that the new record won’t sound at all similar, saying,  "Funnily enough, I mentioned to [Talking Heads' singer] David Byrne the other day that we are trying very hard to stay clear of Talking Heads."

Whether Eno will take full credits at the expense of Coldplay’s long-time producer Ken Nelson or whether he’ll just feature as a collaborator with the band is not yet known.

There has been no official statement from Coldplay representative so far.

After co-founding glam rock legends Roxy Music, Eno has been behind some of the world’s biggest albums, working on seminal records by David Bowie, U2, Peter Gabriel, James, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, and has most recently just completed work on Travis’ new album.

The first chance the public will get to hear any new Coldplay material will be at their dates in Latin America, which starts on February 14 in Santiago, Chile.
