Willy Mason Live On Music: Response

added 01 February 2005 at 15.47

Willy Mason speaks softly and carries a big tune on Music: Response. Hear the Martha's Vineyard native talk to Ian Camfield about performing in a jail cell and his impressive musical pedigree. Hear the session and interview here.

Just 19 years old, Willy Mason already has over eight years of performance experience under his belt, playing coffee shop gigs round his native Martha's Vineyard since he was eleven.

Newly signed by Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst, the earnest young folk-blues merchant has now gone solo and created an album full of soulful, affecting Dylan-esque folk songs that wears its social conscience on its sleeve.

Ahead of his month-long residency at The Enterprise in Chalk Farm, Mason came by Music: Response to talk about the increasingly notorious New York arrest incident, his deep-seated musical background and writing songs about his cats.  [listen]

Willy Mason 'Hard Hand To Hold' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]
Debut single and one of the stand-out tracks from the forthcoming album 'Where The Humans Eat'. A quite frankly beautiful, gently-delivered tale about finding your heart in the big city.

Willy Mason 'Oxygen' [Dial-Up] [Broadband]
This at times hopelessly optimistic tribute to communal responsibility namechecks society's vices with implacable completeness.
