Kaiser Chiefs Clear Up At 2006 Brits

It could almost be renamed the Xfm Awards as all but four winners at last night's Brit Awards have graced the Xfm playlist. However, the night belonged to Leeds' Kaiser Chiefs as the five-piece swept the board with three major gongs at the 2006 industry bash.
At the ceremony at Earls Court in London last night (February 15) Kaiser Chiefs won three of their nominated categories, picking up Best British Group, Best Rock Act and Best Live Act, trouncing the likes of other Xfm-rated acts Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Hard-Fi, Oasis and Kasabian. The band opened the show with a storming rendition of their single 'I Predict A Riot' before collecting their awards from the likes of Tamsin Greig, Thandie Newton and Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry.
Other nods on the night went to Coldplay who picked up the awards for Best British Album and Best Single for 'X&Y' and 'Speed Of Sound', respectively, before Chris Martin wrote the next day's tabloid headlines by announcing that after the band's summer dates they'll be taking some time off. Cue: "Coldplay Quit Shocker!"
Green Day swiped two international gongs for Best Group and Album, while the Arctic Monkeys won Best British Breakthrough, somewhat bafflingly accepting their award via a video message from We Are Scientists' Keith Murray. The Best British Male and Female awards went to J***s Bl**t and KT Tunstall, while Kanye West, Lemar, Madonna (who <shock> didn't thank Guy Ritchie) and Jack Johnson complete the winners roll call. Paul Weller received this year's Outstanding Contribution To Music.
The full list of winner is as follows. Keep listening to Xfm to hear who'll be picking up next year's prizes...
