Bromheads Jacket 'Dits From The Commuter Belt'

They’ve been dropping hit singles and touring up and down the country, now Bromheads Jacket release their long awaited debut. Listen to it all right here.

Although comparisons with Arctic Monkeys will inevitably be made, it is clear from the first listen of 'Dits From The Commuter Belt' that Bromheads Jacket have a distinctive style of their own. Unselfconsciously delivered, the album is a blazing synthesis of punk-rock riffs and witty social commentary.

The Muse-like proportions of 'Orton’s Intro' immediately set a tumultmous tone. The track then bleeds into the brilliant ‘What If's & Maybes’, a raucous meditation on life’s conflicting paths. Next up is ‘Going Round Next Door’, an unapologetic rant about a noisy neighbour and a disturbing fantasy of how he might be ‘sorted out’.

'Poppy Bird'- in which simple lyrics are made interesting by ascending percussion- marks a complete change of tempo and demonstrates that Bromheads Jacket can do heartfelt longing just as good the next band. But this is only a temporal shift as with the exception of heartstring plucker, 'Rosey Lee'- the rest of the album is fast-paced and punchy.

Hampton’s songwriting specialises in transforming the commonplace to something infinitely more interesting. Tube train journeys, downloading music and even a trip to a certain burger bar are given special precedence in his world. Equally as interesting are songs like 'Lesley Parlafitt', 'He Likes Them Airbrushed', and anthem for indie youth, 'My Prime Time Kid' which are stories rather than songs.

Ending as urgently as it begins with the raw and unpolished, 'Hazy In Yately', 'Dits From The Commuter Belt' is an essential high speed audio assault.
