As they rapidly develop into a sublime, mature rock outfit, Athlete step up and take the headlining slot for our latest exclusive Xfm session. Watch the whole set on-demand as Xfm, in association with Jamesons, proudly presents Athlete live.

Athlete Live @ Islington [Dial-Up] [Broadband]

The four boys from Deptford have done good - with the slow-burning but relentless success of their breezy, jovial debut 'Vehicles & Animals' Joel Pott and co. lit a fire that has yet to subside. Now - with the release of album number 2, the altogether darker 'Tourist' - Athlete have grown in practically every direction as their exclusive show for Xfm at the Carling Academy, Islington proves.

Blending their dark and light sides perfectly, Athlete kick off with the subdued anthemics of 'Half-Light' from 'Tourist' before easing effortlessly into the more upbeat 'Westside' and 'El Salvador', injecting these early signature tunes with a touch of melancholy.

Continuing through the mass sing-a-long of 'Vehicles & Animals' ("London's gonna love that!") and the hauntingly beautiful 'Tourist' torch-song 'Twenty Four Hours' Athlete pluck heartstrings and raise spirits in roughly equal measure, swinging from the heartfelt likes of 'Yesterday Threw Everything At Me' to the astonishing Theremin-solo on 'New Project'.

Breakout track 'You Got The Style' brings things full circle, closing the encore and the set as Deptford's favourite sons leave the stage to raptorous applause. If you weren't there, check it out.
