X-clusive: Keane “We Can Top ‘Hopes And Fears’”

Following their double award win at the Brits last night (February 9), Keane have promised that their next album will be even better than the 1.5 million selling ‘Hopes And Fears’.

Another success story for 2004 culminated with Keane bagging two Brit awards last night at the annual ceremony. The band picked up Best British Breakthrough and British Album for their debut LP, and they couldn’t be happier…

“Winning Best Album is something we could only have dreamed of a year ago,” frontman Tom Chaplin explained. “We’re over the moon. It’s been a great year for real British bands writing their own records that are individual and honest. And we’re flattered to be a part of that.

“The award for the Best Album is the one we’re most excited about. This time last year we’d just released ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and we were playing half-empty rooms around the UK. But now we’re on tour in America – we fly back out to Boston tomorrow – and we’ll start recording again in April.

The band also explained that, while ‘Hopes And Fears’ was the debut they wanted to make and undeniably successful, they won’t be making the same album twice.

“We’re definitely gonna go somewhere different [on the next record] and we’ll keep progressing. We’ve got some songs we’re really excited about recording. It has to be a step forward though.  In fact, I think the next album could be even better than ‘Hopes And Fears’.
