X-clusive: Keane To Work With Peter Kay?

Speaking exclusively to Xfm just before their Teenage Cancer Trust concert appearance Tom Chaplin and Richard Hughes from Keane have been talking about how much they’d like to instigate a musical collaboration with comedian Peter Kaye.
Keane singer Tom Chaplin and drummer Richard Hughes spoke to Xfm from The Royal Albert Hall last night (April 5) where they were performing alongside Engineers and Stephen
Fretwell at the fourth night of the annual Teenage Cancer Trust Charity concerts.
The previous night to Keane’s show had been the event’s comedy night, and saw performances from Peter Kaye, who inspires a certain amount of fan worship from the band.
“I hope Peter Kaye is going to come along tonight,” Chaplin explains, “Cos he did a gig last night here [Wednesday 6] and I’m a massive fan of Peter Kay. Just everything he does is brilliant and hilarious. And apparently everyone that works on ‘Phoenix Nights’ are quite big fans of Keane. I’m hoping I might get my chance to me my idol. You never know.”
“I should have brought my DVDs to get signed,” Hughes sighs before responding to a question about whether Keane would consider working with him, with an enthusiastic, “Absolutely! Absolutely! I know he’s just recently had a big chart hit, so yes. Maybe we should get him in. He could play the… Erm…. I dunno. Does he play the bass?”
As for recording of the follow up to the band’s multi-squillion selling debut album 'Hopes And Fears' , it seems the band are about to start work on it at any minute.
“We’re heading into the studio for a couple of weeks in April,” explained Hughes, “So we’re very excited to be doing that. It’s the first time in a long time that the three of us will be alone just working on new song in a room. It’s gonna be great and we’re really looking forward to it. Tim [Rice-Oxley – keyboardist] written quite a batch of new songs for us to have a go at so we’ll just see how they take shape with the three of us in a room. But we’re definitely very excited by it.”
“It’s just so exciting that we’ve been given the opportunity to make another record and that people have gone and go the first one.” Chaplin adds, “And they’ll be eager to hear this next one, I think that’s really spurring us on. I think we’re genuinely excited about the new songs and it’s really going to be a step forward and different to 'Hopes And Fears' which is very important to us as a band. We don’t ever feel like we’re standing still.”
