X-clusive: Hard-Fi “We’ve Got 30 New Tracks”

added 10 November 2005 at 10.44

Ahead of their next Xfm live performance at this year’s Winter Wonderland at Brixton Academy, Xfm’s Lauren Laverne spoke to Hard-Fi frontman Richard Archer about their second album and the gig itself.

Calling the show from the midst of the band’s current jaunt around France (“We’re basically following the riots around the country!”), Archer explained work has already begun on the follow-up to their debut, ‘Stars Of CCTV’,

“We’ve got about 30 songs written over the last year after the last album,” he revealed, “But I don’t know if they’re any good yet. I’ll have to sit down and have a look at ‘em.

“We could have a strw poll at the Winter Wonderland, with a clap-o-meter. Is it a) Rubbish, b) OK or c) Actually quite good. Actually, everything kind of started for us last year when we played the Xfm [Big Night Out] show at Brixton, so it’ll be a nice way to round [the year] off.

“It’ll be a good laugh, a good party. Then we'll take some time to chill out for a bit and worry about when they’re going to start saying ‘So when’s your next album ready? Two weeks?’

Archer also revealed of all the bands joining Hard-Fi for the first night of the Wonderland (including the Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Maximo Park and The Dead 60s), it’s The Dead 60s that are the best drinking buddys…

“We’ve met ‘em all, but probably hung out more with the Kaisers because we toured with them back in April,” he considered. “But probably The Dead 60s [would be the best drinking partners], they’re dark horses - you better watch ‘em.

“They come over as quite quiet, but they’re like animals when they’re on their own. They’ll kill me for saying that!”

Tickets for Xfm's Winterwonderland go on sale 9am this Friday November 11 and are priced at an amazingly reasonable £20 for each night. They'll be available from the Xfm Xchange on 0871 222 1049, the Brixton Academy box office on 0870 771 2000 or simply online by clicking here.
